Youth League Milan Finale: Inter Milan triumph 3-1 over arch-rivals AC Milan
Milan derby goes Inter's way in pulsating UEFA Youth League final
Inter Milan lifted the UEFA Youth League trophy after overcoming local rivals AC Milan 3-1 in a thrilling final at the U-Power Stadium on Tuesday.
The Nerazzurri started brightly and took the lead inside 15 minutes through striker Valentin Carboni, who coolly slotted home a penalty after AC Milan defender Simone Simic had brought down Tommaso Mancini inside the box.
Inter doubled their advantage midway through the first half courtesy of a moment of individual brilliance from Ilias Kroupi. The midfielder picked up the ball on the right flank, drove infield, and unleashed a stunning 25-yard strike that flew into the top corner.
AC Milan pulled one back just before the hour mark thanks to a fine finish from Tommaso Pobega, who collected a loose ball on the edge of the area and fired a low shot into the bottom corner.
However, Inter restored their two-goal cushion with 15 minutes remaining when Cesare Casadei rose highest to head home a corner from Tommaso Mancini.
Conclusion
The victory was Inter's first in the UEFA Youth League and their first continental triumph at any level since winning the UEFA Cup in 1998. It was also a sweet moment for manager Christian Chivu, who captained Inter's senior team to the treble in 2010.
For AC Milan, it was a disappointing end to a promising campaign. However, the Rossoneri can take heart from the fact that they have a talented group of youngsters coming through the ranks.
