WSCC Students to Conduct Exit Polls in Manistee

Students in Tom Renner's political science class will conduct exit polls of voters leaving the polls on Election Day.

This is the first time WSCC students have conducted exit polls, and Renner said it's a great opportunity for them to get hands-on experience with political science research.

"Exit polls are a valuable tool for political scientists because they provide information about who voted, why they voted the way they did, and what issues were most important to them," Renner said.

The students will be stationed at the Manistee County Courthouse and the Manistee City Hall on Election Day, November 8th.

They will interview voters as they leave the polls and ask them a series of questions about their voting behavior.

The results of the exit polls will be used to write a report on voter turnout and voting behavior in Manistee County.

The report will be presented to the Manistee County Board of Commissioners and the Manistee City Council.

Renner said he hopes the report will help local officials better understand the needs of their constituents.

"This is a great opportunity for our students to make a real contribution to the community," Renner said.

"I'm confident that they will conduct a professional and informative exit poll that will provide valuable information to local officials."
