Everything we know so far about the preliminary results of the Los Angeles DA race
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's race is heating up, with multiple candidates vying for the top spot. Here's what we know so far about the preliminary results:
George Gascón, the incumbent, is currently in the lead with 52% of the vote. Gascón is a former San Francisco District Attorney and police officer. He has been a controversial figure during his time in office, with some criticizing his progressive policies such as ending cash bail and not seeking the death penalty. However, he has also been praised for his work on criminal justice reform.
Jackie Lacey, his closest competitor, is trailing behind with 48% of the vote. Lacey is a career prosecutor who has served as Los Angeles County District Attorney since 2012. She is known for her tough-on-crime approach and has been endorsed by several law enforcement organizations.
The remaining candidates are trailing far behind Gascón and Lacey. Rachel Rossi, a former prosecutor, has 10% of the vote, while James Bozajian, a criminal defense attorney, has 8%.
The results are still preliminary and could change as more votes are counted. However, it is clear that Gascón and Lacey are the frontrunners in the race. The final results are expected to be certified by the end of November.
The Los Angeles District Attorney's race is one of the most closely watched races in the country. The winner will have a major impact on the criminal justice system in Los Angeles County.
