Nebraska U.S. Reps. Mike Flood, Adrian Smith sail to re-election
Incumbent Republicans retain House seats in Nebraska
U.S. Reps. Adrian Smith and Mike Flood, both Republicans, have won re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives, according to unofficial results from the Nebraska Secretary of State's office.
Smith, who has represented Nebraska's 3rd Congressional District since 2007, defeated Democratic challenger Alisha Shelton by a margin of 71% to 29%. Flood, who was elected to Nebraska's 1st Congressional District in a special election in June 2022, defeated Democratic challenger Patty Pansing Brooks by a margin of 61% to 39%.
Both incumbents campaigned on their records of conservative leadership
Smith, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, touted his work on tax reform and his support for pro-business policies. Flood, a member of the House Agriculture Committee, emphasized his work on farm policy and his support for rural communities.
Their victories underscore the strong Republican lean of Nebraska's congressional delegation. All three of Nebraska's U.S. House members are now Republicans.
Smith and Flood will face different political landscapes in the next Congress
Smith will continue to serve in the minority in the House, as Republicans lost control of the chamber in the 2022 midterm elections. Flood, however, will serve in the majority, as Republicans gained control of the House.
Both incumbents have expressed optimism about working with the new Congress to address the challenges facing the country.
