Youth League: Mainz fight back against Barcelona to reach semi-finals
Mainz 05 came from behind to beat Barcelona 3-1 in the UEFA Youth League quarter-finals on Wednesday.
The German side will now face Real Madrid in the semi-finals, while Barcelona's hopes of winning the trophy for the second time in three years are over.
Barcelona took the lead in the 22nd minute through a stunning strike from Ilaix Moriba, but Mainz hit back just seven minutes later when Anton Stach fired home a low drive.
The German side then took the lead for the first time in the 37th minute when Dominik Kohr headed home a cross from the right.
Mainz sealed the victory in the 55th minute when Stach scored his second goal of the game, finishing off a fine move from the German side.
Barcelona pressed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Mainz held on to secure a famous victory.
The result means that Mainz will now face Real Madrid in the semi-finals, while Barcelona's hopes of winning the trophy for the second time in three years are over.
