Youngsters Shine as Leverkusen Dominate Italian Giants
Bayer Leverkusen's youth team continued their impressive run in the UEFA Youth League with a convincing 3-1 victory over AC Milan in Germany on Wednesday. The German side, unbeaten in the competition this season, put on a dominant display, outplaying the Italian giants in all aspects of the game.
Leverkusen took the lead midway through the first half when Iker Bravo finished off a flowing team move with a clinical strike. The young German forward, who has been in fine form for Leverkusen's youth team this season, showcased his quality with a well-taken goal.
Milan, who were without several key players due to injuries, struggled to create chances in the first half and went into the break trailing by a goal. The second half was a similar story, with Leverkusen continuing to dominate possession and creating the better chances.
Leverkusen doubled their lead in the 65th minute when Zidan Sertdemir scored a stunning free-kick from just outside the penalty area. The Turkish midfielder curled the ball into the top corner, leaving Milan goalkeeper Andreas Junges with no chance.
Milan finally managed to pull a goal back in the 75th minute through substitute Tommaso Mancini, who headed home a cross from the left. However, Leverkusen restored their two-goal advantage just five minutes later when Karim Diaby converted a penalty kick after Milan defender Matteo Gabbia was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.
The win takes Leverkusen to the top of Group B with 10 points from four games, while Milan remain in third place with four points. Leverkusen will now face Atletico Madrid in their next match, while Milan will host Club Brugge.
