Youth League: Leverkusen continue winning run with victory over Nice
Bayer Leverkusen's Under-19s continued their impressive start to the UEFA Youth League campaign with a 3-1 win over OGC Nice on Wednesday.
The victory was Leverkusen's third in a row in the competition, and it moved them top of Group B with nine points from three games.
Leverkusen took the lead in the 18th minute when Zidan Sertdemir fired home from close range after a fine run and cross from Noah Mbamba.
Nice equalised in the 35th minute through Evann Guessand, but Leverkusen regained the lead just before half-time when Sertdemir scored his second of the game.
Leverkusen sealed the win in the 65th minute when Emrehan Gedikli converted a penalty after Sertdemir had been fouled in the area.
The win was a deserved one for Leverkusen, who were the better team throughout the game.
They created a number of chances and could have won by a bigger margin.
Nice, meanwhile, were disappointing and will need to improve if they want to qualify for the knockout stages.
Leverkusen will now face Young Boys in their next Youth League game on October 26.
They will be confident of getting a result against the Swiss side and securing qualification for the next round.
