Youth League Final: Bayern Munich beat Barcelona 3-2 to win record eighth title on penalties
Bayern Munich lifted the UEFA Youth League trophy for a record eighth time after beating Barcelona in a penalty shootout following a thrilling 3-3 draw in Nyon on Tuesday
Barca were 2-0 up within 10 minutes, but a remarkable Bayern comeback saw them level before substitute Gabriel Vidovic struck in the second half of extra-time to put the German side 3-2 ahead.
However, substitute forward Ilias Akhomach equalised with a stunning strike from distance to force a penalty shootout, which Bayern won 5-3.
Having won the competition in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2022, Bayern's victory in Switzerland means they are now one clear of Chelsea in the all-time winners' list.
They also joined Real Madrid as the only teams to win the competition three years in a row.
Bayern were immediately on the back foot as Barcelona raced into an early lead thanks to goals from Lamine Yamal and Angel Alarcon.
But Bayern hit back through Arijon Ibrahimovic in the 21st minute before Mathys Tel equalised with a penalty in the 35th.
Barca were reduced to 10 men six minutes into the second half when Fabio Blanco was shown a second yellow card, but Bayern could not find a winner in normal time.
It took until the 111th minute for the next goal to arrive, with substitute Vidovic tapping in from close range after Barca failed to clear a corner.
Yet Bayern's joy was short-lived as Akhomach unleashed a superb drive from 25 yards in the 113th minute to level the scores again.
Bayern goalkeeper Johannes Schenk was the hero in the shootout, saving penalties from Alarcon and Chadi Riad to hand his side a famous victory.
