Youth League: Bayer Leverkusen reaches the last 16 - Danes provide the preliminary decision
FC Schalke 04 missed the round of 16 in the UEFA Youth League.
Bayer Leverkusen, on the other hand, is through. Against the U19 of FC Midtjylland, Leverkusen's U19 won 1-0 (0-0).
After a goalless first half, Leverkusener Tim Sechelmann scored the winning goal in the 51st minute with a header after a corner from Ole Pohlmann. Bayer had to tremble a little in the final phase, but ultimately secured the victory.
Schalke 04, on the other hand, missed the knockout round despite a 2-1 (0-1) win at the U19 of Manchester City. The English had taken an early lead through Liam Delap. Shortly before the break, Kerim Calhanoglu equalized for Schalke. Milan Ibrahimovic's son, Loui, who had played for City from the start, was substituted in the 65th minute.
In the second half, Mehmet Can Aydin (57th minute) briefly put S04 in the lead, but Liam Delap (74th) scored again to equalize for the hosts.
Due to the 0-3 defeat in the first leg, Schalke were unable to reach the round of 16. The Royal Blues thus failed in the group stage of the UEFA Youth League for the second time in a row.
