Bayer 04 Leverkusen's U19 team secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over VfL Wolfsburg in the Youth League on Wednesday. The match was a thrilling encounter with both teams putting on an impressive display of attacking football.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen's Dominance
Leverkusen took control of the game from the outset, dominating possession and creating several chances in the opening minutes. Their efforts paid off in the 20th minute when Karim Bellarabi opened the scoring with a clinical finish.
Leverkusen continued to press forward and doubled their lead just 10 minutes later through a stunning strike from Florian Wirtz. Wolfsburg struggled to contain Leverkusen's relentless attacks and went into half-time trailing by two goals.
Wolfsburg's Resurgence
Wolfsburg came out with renewed determination in the second half and managed to pull a goal back through a well-taken header from Janis Blaswich. This gave them a much-needed boost and they continued to push for an equalizer.
They got their equalizer in the 70th minute when a defensive error allowed Felix Nmecha to slot home from close range. The goal set up a tense finale with both teams looking for the winning goal.
Leverkusen's Winning Strike
In the end, it was Leverkusen who found the winning goal in the 80th minute. A cross from the right found its way to Bellarabi, who calmly slotted the ball into the net to secure the victory for his team.
This victory puts Leverkusen in a strong position in Group A of the Youth League. They are now joint-top with Wolfsburg on six points, but have a better goal difference. They will be hoping to continue their good form when they face Juventus in their next match.
