Youth League: Bayer 04 Leverkusen crowned German champions

Leverkusen secure third title with 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund

Bayer 04 Leverkusen have added another title to their impressive trophy cabinet after securing a 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the final of the German Youth League.

The young Werkself, who had previously won the title in 2016 and 2019, started the match strongly and took the lead in the 10th minute when Iker Bravo fired home a stunning strike from outside the box.

Dortmund equalised just before the half-hour mark through a penalty from Youssoufa Moukoko, but Leverkusen regained the lead in the 35th minute when Zidan Sertdemir converted a cross from Cherno Moukstgaard.

The second half was a tense affair, with both teams creating chances but failing to find a clinical finish. However, Leverkusen sealed the victory in the 80th minute when Sertdemir scored his second goal of the match, capitalising on a Dortmund defensive error.

Dortmund pulled a goal back through Jamie Bynoe-Gittens in the 85th minute, but it was too little too late as Leverkusen held on for a famous victory.

The triumph marks a remarkable achievement for Leverkusen's youth academy, which has produced a number of talented players in recent years, including Kai Havertz, Julian Brandt, and Florian Wirtz.

For Dortmund, the defeat will be a disappointment, but they can take solace in the fact that they have a number of promising youngsters in their squad.
