Youth League: Barca and Bayern triumph
Blaugrana and Bavarians impress at Under-19 level
Barcelona and Bayern Munich's Under-19 teams produced impressive performances in the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday, with both sides claiming comfortable victories.
Barca ease past Inter
Barcelona ran out 4-1 winners over Inter Milan at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, with goals from Ilias Akhomach, Aleix Garrido, Estanis Pedrola and Angel Alarcon securing the victory.
After a goalless first half, Akhomach broke the deadlock for Barca in the 51st minute, before Garrido doubled their lead just three minutes later.
Inter pulled a goal back through Valentin Carboni in the 63rd minute, but Barca restored their two-goal advantage through Pedrola seven minutes later.
Alarcon then wrapped up the scoring for Barca in the 83rd minute, securing a comfortable victory for the Spanish side.
Bayern dominate Benfica
Bayern Munich were equally impressive in their 3-0 victory over Benfica at the Benfica Campus.
A brace from Arijon Ibrahimovic and a goal from Mathys Tel secured the victory for Bayern, who dominated the game from start to finish.
Ibrahimovic opened the scoring for Bayern in the 16th minute, before doubling their lead in the 55th minute.
Tel then added a third for Bayern in the 75th minute, sealing a comprehensive victory for the German side.
Both teams progress to knockout stages
Both Barcelona and Bayern Munich have now qualified for the knockout stages of the UEFA Youth League, with their victories ensuring they finish top of their respective groups.
Barca will now face the runners-up from Group E in the last 16, while Bayern will take on the winners of Group D.
The knockout stages of the UEFA Youth League will begin in March, with the final scheduled to be played on 29 April in Nyon, Switzerland.
