Youngsters triumph over Club Brugge in Matchday 5 clash

Bayer Leverkusen have booked their place in the knockout stages of the UEFA Youth League after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Club Brugge on Matchday 5. The German side took the lead through a penalty from Iker Bravo in the first half and although Club Brugge equalised through a stunning strike from Cisse Sandra, Leverkusen claimed all three points when Zinho Vanheusden turned the ball into his own net late on.

Bayer Leverkusen were the better side throughout the match and deserved their victory. They created a number of chances and were unlucky not to score more goals. Club Brugge defended resolutely and were dangerous on the counter-attack, but they were unable to find an equaliser in the second half.

Leverkusen's qualification for knockout stages

This victory means that Leverkusen have qualified for the knockout stages of the UEFA Youth League for the second season in a row. They will now face one of the group winners in the next round. Club Brugge, meanwhile, are eliminated from the competition.
