The Evening: NK Troops in Russia, Progress Needed On Gaza, One On One, and More
NK Troops in Russia
Russia confirmed on Monday that soldiers from North Korea have arrived in the east of the country to take part in joint military exercises, a move that comes amid high tensions over Ukraine and as Moscow seeks to bolster its military presence in the region.
The exercises, which will involve around 150 North Korean troops, are scheduled to take place in the Russia's Far East region from August 30 to September 5.
They will be the first joint military exercises between Russia and North Korea since 2019.
Progress Needed On Gaza
The United Nations special envoy for the Middle East peace process, Tor Wennesland, on Monday called for progress on the Gaza Strip, warning that the situation there is "deteriorating" and could lead to another conflict.
Wennesland briefed the UN Security Council behind closed doors on the situation in the Gaza Strip, which has been under Israeli blockade since 2007.
He said that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is "dire," with high levels of unemployment and poverty.
One On One
Former US President Donald Trump and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will face off in a one-on-one debate on September 29, 2023.
The debate will be held at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and will be moderated by Fox News host Chris Wallace.
The debate is expected to be one of the most watched political events of the year.
