Possible tornado damage reported in Basile area
First responders are assessing damage after a possible tornado touched down in the Basile area.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
According to Basile Fire Chief Keith Duplechain, the damage was reported around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Highways 104 and 97. Duplechain confirmed a barn was destroyed on Highway 97. There have also been reports of trees down in the area.Entergy crews are on the scene working to restore power to the area. Duplechain advised that residents should avoid the area if possible as first responders continue to assess the damage.
The National Weather Service has not yet confirmed whether a tornado touched down in the area. However, the NWS did issue a tornado warning for the area earlier today.
The NWS advises residents to take shelter in a sturdy building if they see a tornado or receive a tornado warning. If you are in a mobile home, you should evacuate to a sturdy building.
