MSNBC's Joy Reid Rips 'Fascist-Type Government' Over Florida's Abortion Amendment Failure
Reid's Outburst Follows Amendment's Defeat in Landslide Vote
MSNBC host Joy Reid launched a fiery tirade against the United States government on Tuesday, calling it "fascist-type" after Florida voters overwhelmingly rejected a proposed amendment to the state constitution that would have repealed a 15-week abortion ban.
Amendment Rejected by Wide Margin
The amendment, which was on the ballot as Amendment 2, was defeated by a margin of 59% to 41%. The result was a significant blow to abortion rights advocates, who had hoped to overturn the ban that was enacted by the Republican-controlled legislature earlier this year.
Reid: 'Another Step Towards Authoritarianism'
Reid, a vocal critic of the Republican Party, wasted no time in condemning the amendment's failure. "This is yet another step towards authoritarianism in this country," she said on her show, "The ReidOut." "We are moving closer and closer to a government that does not represent the will of the people."
