Olympiakos U19s earn creditable draw against AC Milan in UEFA Youth League
The Greek side held their own against one of the competition's favourites
Olympiacos U19s earned a creditable 1-1 draw against AC Milan in the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday.
The Greek side held their own against one of the competition's favourites and took the lead through Christos Liatsos in the first half.
Milan equalised after the break through Marko Lazetic, but Olympiakos defended resolutely to earn a share of the spoils.
The result leaves Olympiakos third in Group H, behind Milan and Chelsea.
However, they still have a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages if they can beat Chelsea in their final group game next month.
Milan, meanwhile, are now top of the group and need only a point from their final game against RB Salzburg to secure their place in the next round.
The match was played at the Stadio Breda in Sesto San Giovanni, Italy.
Milan started the game brightly and had the first chance when Marco Nasti fired wide from the edge of the area.
However, it was Olympiakos who took the lead against the run of play in the 23rd minute.
Liatsos latched onto a through ball from Anastasios Douvikas and raced clear of the Milan defence before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Andreas Jungdal.
Milan responded well to going behind and equalised in the 55th minute.
Lazetic rose highest to head home a cross from Nasti.
The Italian side pushed for a winner in the closing stages but were unable to break down a resolute Olympiakos defence.
The draw leaves Milan top of Group H with seven points, while Olympiakos are third with five points.
Chelsea are second with six points, while RB Salzburg are bottom with one point.
Milan will host RB Salzburg in their final group game on December 14.
Olympiakos will travel to face Chelsea on the same day.
