Liverpool Brush Aside Bayer Leverkusen In Youth League Clash
Reds Secure Convincing Home Win
Liverpool's Under-19s produced a dominant display to thrash Bayer Leverkusen 4-1 in the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday afternoon at the Kirkby Academy.
The young Reds took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes when Mateusz Musialowski finished coolly from close range. The Polish forward doubled his tally just before the half-hour mark, heading home from a corner.
Liverpool continued to dominate after the break and extended their lead through Oakley Cannonier's close-range effort. Max Woltman pulled a goal back for Leverkusen, but Luke Chambers restored the Reds' three-goal advantage with a fine individual effort.
The victory sees Liverpool move top of Group B with six points from their opening two matches. They will face Porto away in their next match on October 26.
Musialowski Shines For Liverpool
Mateusz Musialowski was in inspired form for Liverpool, scoring two goals and causing the Leverkusen defense all sorts of problems with his pace and trickery.
The 18-year-old opened the scoring with a clinical finish from close range and doubled his tally with a well-taken header from a corner.
Musialowski's performance will have delighted Liverpool manager Barry Lewtas, who will be hoping the young forward can continue his good form in the coming weeks.
Liverpool's Defense Stands Firm
Liverpool's defense produced a solid performance against a dangerous Leverkusen attack.
The Reds backline was well-organized and disciplined, limiting Leverkusen to very few clear-cut chances.
Captain Lee Jonas and centre-back Billy Koumetio were particularly impressive, making several important blocks and tackles.
Liverpool's Attacking Prowess
