The Cowboys' trade for Mingo was a head-scratcher

The Dallas Cowboys traded a sixth-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons for defensive end Jonathan Mingo on Tuesday. It was a move that was met with some confusion, as Mingo is a 29-year-old journeyman who has never been a particularly productive player. In fact, Mingo has only started 20 games in his entire career, and he has just 14.5 sacks to his name.

The Cowboys' decision to trade for Mingo is even more perplexing when you consider the fact that they already have a number of talented pass-rushers on their roster. DeMarcus Lawrence, Randy Gregory, and Dorance Armstrong are all capable of getting after the quarterback, and the Cowboys also have Taco Charlton and Joe Jackson waiting in the wings.

The Chiefs got a steal in Hopkins

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs acquired DeAndre Hopkins from the Arizona Cardinals for a second-round pick and running back David Johnson. Hopkins is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, and he is coming off a season in which he caught 115 passes for 1,407 yards and six touchdowns.

The Chiefs gave up very little to acquire Hopkins, and he should be a major upgrade to their offense. Hopkins is a big, physical receiver who is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. He is also a great blocker, which will help the Chiefs' running game.

The Cowboys made a mistake

The Cowboys' trade for Mingo is a head-scratcher, while the Chiefs' trade for Hopkins is a steal. The Cowboys gave up too much for a player who is not a significant upgrade over what they already have. The Chiefs, on the other hand, got a great player for a very reasonable price.

It will be interesting to see how these two trades play out in the long run. But for now, it is clear that the Chiefs got the better deal.
