How Do I Check Voter Registration Status?: What to Know for Election Day

Millions of Americans are at stake

By Election Day, 150 million Americans had cast their ballots, either by mail or in person during early voting, according to the U.S. Elections Project.

Last-minute registrations are no longer possible, but there are a couple simple ways to check your voter registration status online.

Double check your information

First, try searching your state’s official website for a voter registration search tool. Some sites require only your name and date of birth, while others may need your driver's license or state identification number. Once you’ve located the search tool, enter the requested information. You should immediately see if you are registered to vote and, if so, where you’re assigned to vote. If the website doesn’t have the information you need, then you can call your local election officials. They should be able to provide you with your registration status and polling place information.
