Francesco Merloni, the former president of Italian home appliance manufacturer Indesit Company, has died at the age of 83. His family announced his death on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

Merloni was born in Fabriano, Italy, in 1940. He joined the family business, Indesit, in 1960 and became its president in 1975. Under his leadership, Indesit expanded internationally and became one of the leading home appliance manufacturers in Europe.

Merloni was also a pioneer in technological innovation. He introduced computer-aided design and manufacturing at Indesit and invested heavily in research and development. As a result, Indesit became known for its innovative and high-quality products.

Merloni retired as president of Indesit in 2010 but remained active in the company as chairman. He was also a member of the board of directors of several other Italian companies.

Merloni was a respected figure in the Italian business community. He was awarded the Order of Merit for Labor by the Italian government in 2005.

Merloni is survived by his wife, three children, and several grandchildren.
