Current Situation
Dunedin is experiencing significant flooding today, caused by heavy rainfall that has inundated parts of the city. Several roads have been closed, and some residents have been evacuated from their homes.
The Dunedin City Council is urging residents to stay informed and take precautions during this time. They have set up a website with updates on the flooding, as well as information on how to report flooding or damage.
Road Closures
The following roads are currently closed due to flooding:
- State Highway 1 between Dunedin and Mosgiel
- Dunedin Northern Motorway between Andersons Bay Road and Leith Valley Road
- Highgate Road between Bayview Road and Signal Hill Road
Motorists are advised to avoid these areas and find alternate routes.
Evacuations
Some residents in low-lying areas of Dunedin have been evacuated from their homes due to the flooding. The Dunedin City Council has set up evacuation centers at the following locations:
- St Clair Recreation Centre
- Forsyth Barr Stadium
Residents who have been evacuated should register with the Red Cross at these centers.
