Commanders Tight End: Rumors, News, and Analysis

Recent News and Rumors

The Commanders are reportedly interested in signing free-agent tight end O.J. Howard, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Howard was released by the Buccaneers earlier this month after three seasons with the team.

The Commanders also reportedly hosted tight end Gerald Everett for a visit on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Everett was released by the Seahawks last week after two seasons with the team.

Analysis

The Commanders are in need of a tight end after losing Logan Thomas to a torn ACL in December. Howard and Everett are both experienced tight ends who could fill that void.

Howard has 126 receptions for 1,737 yards and 15 touchdowns in his career. He was a Pro Bowl selection in 2019.

Everett has 187 receptions for 2,209 yards and 15 touchdowns in his career. He was a Pro Bowl selection in 2021.

Outlook

The Commanders are likely to sign either Howard or Everett, or possibly both. Both players would be a significant upgrade at tight end for the Commanders.

Howard is a more experienced player, but Everett is younger and has more upside. Ultimately, the decision will likely come down to which player is willing to sign a more team-friendly contract.
