Clinton County Election Results Update

Clinton County, New York, Holds Primary Election

The results are in for the Clinton County, New York, primary election. Incumbent Democrat Dan Stec has won the Republican nomination for the New York State Senate's 45th district. He defeated challenger Michael Powers by a margin of 58% to 42%.

Stec to Face Democrat in November Election

In the Democratic primary, Andrea Smyth secured the nomination, receiving 67% of the vote. Smyth, a former Clinton County legislator, will face Stec in the general election in November. Stec has held the seat since 2018, while Smyth is seeking her first term in the State Senate.

Other Races in Clinton County

In the race for Clinton County Sheriff, Republican incumbent David Favro won the primary with 65% of the vote, defeating challenger Gerald Dumas. Favro will face Democrat Michael Blaise in the November election.

The Clinton County Legislature races also saw some key results. In District 1, Republican incumbent Mark Dame retained his seat with 72% of the vote. In District 2, Democratic challenger Daniel LaPierre won with 54% of the vote, unseating Republican incumbent Robert Heins.

Voter Turnout

Voter turnout in the Clinton County primary was moderate. Approximately 30% of registered voters cast ballots, a slightly higher turnout than in the 2018 primary.

The general election will be held on November 7, 2023. All registered voters in Clinton County are eligible to participate.
