Former Alabama Quarterback Released After Super Bowl Loss

Young to join Eagles practice squad

The Philadelphia Eagles have released quarterback Bryce Young, the former Alabama standout who was acquired in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals last year. Young was expected to compete for the starting job in Philadelphia, but he struggled in the preseason and was ultimately beaten out by Jalen Hurts. Young was released on Tuesday, August 15th, 2023.

Young was a highly touted recruit coming out of high school, and he quickly became one of the best quarterbacks in college football during his time at Alabama. He won the Heisman Trophy in 2021 and led the Crimson Tide to a national championship in 2020. However, Young struggled to find his footing in the NFL. He completed only 55.6% of his passes in the preseason and threw two interceptions.

The Eagles are now left with Hurts as their starting quarterback. Hurts had a breakout season in 2022, leading the Eagles to the Super Bowl. He is expected to be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL this season.

Young is still a talented quarterback, and he could still have a successful NFL career. However, he will need to find a new team where he can get a chance to play. The Eagles are likely to keep Young on their practice squad in 2023, but there is no telling if he will ever be considered a viable contender for the starting job in Philadelphia.
