Impressive performance by Bayern in their first game of the season
Balanced scoring and strong defense lead to victory
FC Bayern Munich began their 2022-23 EuroLeague campaign with a convincing 96-80 victory over Olympiacos Piraeus on Thursday.
Bayern was led by a balanced scoring attack, with six players scoring in double figures. Vladimir Lucic paced the team with 15 points, followed by Cassius Winston (14), Augustine Rubit (12), Niels Giffey (11), D.J. Seeley (11), and Nick Weiler-Babb (10).
Bayern's defense was also impressive, holding Olympiacos to just 38.2% shooting from the field, including 26.7% from three-point range.
Olympiacos struggles to find rhythm
Olympiacos, who reached the EuroLeague Final Four last season, struggled to find their rhythm offensively throughout the game.
The Greek club was led by Sasha Vezenkov, who finished with 20 points. However, Vezenkov was the only Olympiacos player to score in double figures.
Bayern's strong start sets the tone
Bayern came out strong from the start, taking an early 10-point lead.
The German club maintained their lead throughout the first half, taking a 50-41 advantage into the break.
Bayern continued to control the game in the second half, extending their lead to as many as 20 points.

With the win, Bayern improves to 1-0 in the EuroLeague standings.
The German club will next face ASVEL Villeurbanne on the road on Tuesday.
Olympiacos drops to 0-1 with the loss.
The Greek club will next host Zalgiris Kaunas on Friday.
