Bayer Leverkusen swoops for Austria’s U-21 captain
Highly-rated defender leaves Red Bull Salzburg for Germany
Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen has signed Austria U-21 captain Nicolas Seiwald from Red Bull Salzburg.
The 21-year-old centre-back has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at the BayArena.
Seiwald is a product of the Red Bull Salzburg academy and has been a regular for the Austrian U-21 side since 2021.
He made his debut for the Salzburg first team in 2020 and has since made over 50 appearances for the club.
Seiwald is a versatile defender who can play at centre-back or right-back.
He is also a good passer of the ball and has a strong aerial presence.
Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes said: "Nicolas Seiwald is a young, talented defender who has already gained experience at the highest level.”
