Bayer 04 Judo: A History of Excellence

Origins and Early Success

Bayer 04 Judo was founded in 1972 as a department of the TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen sports club. The club quickly gained prominence in German judo, winning its first national championship in 1975. Over the next two decades, Bayer 04 Judo continued to dominate the German judo scene, capturing 14 national team titles and producing numerous individual champions.

International Recognition

In the 1990s, Bayer 04 Judo began to make its mark on the international stage. The club won its first European Cup title in 1995 and went on to win the prestigious Champions League in 2000 and 2004. Bayer 04 Judo also produced several world champions, including Olympic medalist Yvonne Bönisch.

Continued Success

In recent years, Bayer 04 Judo has continued to be a force in both German and international judo. The club has won the German team title for the past five consecutive years and has also won the European Cup twice in that span. Bayer 04 Judo is home to some of the top judokas in the world, including Olympic medalist Karl-Richard Frey.

Training and Facilities

Bayer 04 Judo has a state-of-the-art training center in Leverkusen, Germany. The center includes a world-class dojo, a weight room, and a recovery area. The club also has a team of experienced coaches who work with athletes of all ages and skill levels.
