Amendment 2 Passes: Florida Votes to Establish a State Constitutional Right to Hunt and Fish
Voters in Florida have overwhelmingly approved Amendment 2, which will establish a state constitutional right to hunt and fish.
The amendment was on the ballot Tuesday and passed with more than 60% of the vote. It will take effect on January 1, 2023.
Amendment 2 adds language to the state constitution that states: "The right of the people to hunt and fish shall be forever recognized and preserved." It also prohibits the state from enacting any laws that would infringe on this right.
The amendment was supported by a coalition of hunting and fishing groups, as well as by the National Rifle Association.
Opponents of the amendment argued that it was unnecessary and that it would make it more difficult to regulate hunting and fishing in the state.
However, supporters of the amendment said that it was necessary to protect the rights of hunters and fishers. They argued that the state constitution should explicitly recognize these rights, just as it recognizes other fundamental rights such as the right to bear arms and the right to free speech.
The passage of Amendment 2 is a victory for hunters and fishers in Florida.
It ensures that their rights will be protected in the state constitution and that they will be able to continue to enjoy their outdoor activities.
