AG Marty Jackley Guides Voters Through the Complex Ballot Measures
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Attorney General Marty Jackley's office has released a guide to help voters understand the 12 ballot measures that will be on the November ballot in South Dakota and North Dakota.
The guide provides a brief summary of each measure, as well as arguments for and against its passage. Jackley said he hopes the guide will help voters make informed decisions about the measures.
The 12 ballot measures include:
- Constitutional Amendment A: Changes the way that state legislators are elected.
- Constitutional Amendment B: Requires voters to show identification at the polls.
- Constitutional Amendment C: Makes it more difficult to pass new taxes.
- Constitutional Amendment D: Bans abortion in South Dakota.
- Initiated Measure 22: Legalizes recreational marijuana.
- Initiated Measure 23: Raises the state's minimum wage.
- Initiated Measure 24: Creates a new property tax exemption for veterans.
- Initiated Measure 25: Changes the way that judges are selected.
- Initiated Measure 26: Makes it easier to recall elected officials.
- Initiated Measure 27: Creates a new ethics commission.
- Initiated Measure 28:Bans flavored vaping products.
- Initiated Measure 29: Legalizes sports betting.
Jackley said he encourages voters to read the guide and learn about the measures before they vote.
"These measures will have a significant impact on our state, so it's important for voters to be informed about them," Jackley said.
