AC Milan 1-2 Newcastle United: Magpies Seal Quarter-final Berth with Impressive Youth League Victory
Newcastle Stun AC Milan To Reach Semi-Finals
Late Goal by Chris Rigg Secures Famous Win for English Side
Newcastle United’s under-19 side produced a stunning performance to defeat AC Milan 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday. The Magpies, who had already impressed in the group stage, showed great determination and resilience to overcome a strong Milan side.
Newcastle took the lead in the 20th minute through a well-taken goal by Alex Murphy. The young English forward showed great composure to control a long pass before firing a low shot into the bottom corner.
Milan, who had won the Youth League in 2016, responded well to the setback and equalized just five minutes later. Marko Lazetic, the Serbian striker, was on hand to tap home a cross from the right.
The game remained evenly contested in the second half, with both teams having chances to win it. However, it was Newcastle who struck the decisive blow in the 89th minute. Chris Rigg, who had come on as a substitute, headed home a cross from the left to send the Magpies into the semi-finals.
Newcastle’s victory is a major achievement for the club and a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players and staff. The Magpies will now face either Real Madrid or SL Benfica in the semi-finals, which will be played on April 29.
